てん — Decimal Point
Use てん to say the decimal point when reading numbers aloud.
| Numeral | Japanese |
|---|---|
| 2.5 メートル | にてんごメートル |
| 7.4 キロ | ななてんよんキロ |
- ならの大ぶつの手の大きさは2.5メートル → にてんごメートル (not にじゅうごメートル)
ので — Because / Since (Giving a Reason)
ので connects a reason (before) to a result (after). It is softer than から.
Structure: [reason sentence] + ので、[result]

とき — When / At the Time of
とき describes the point in time when something happens.
Structure: Verb (plain form) + とき

- 歩きながらふじ山を見ました。(aruki nagara Fujisan wo mimashita) — I saw Mt. Fuji while walking. (ながら reinforcement)
どのくらい — Asking About Degree / Weight

3. Learning Context
- 高さ vs しんちょう: 高さ(たかさ)is used for the height of buildings and objects. しんちょう(身長)is only for a person's body height.
- のでvsから: Both mean "because", but ので sounds more polite and natural in written/formal speech. から is more casual and direct.
- てん for decimals: Japanese reads decimal numbers with てん in the middle — 2.5 = にてんご, not "two point five" in English order.
- どきどき: This onomatopoeia describes a fast-beating or pounding heart (excitement/nerves). Contrast with いらいら (irritated) and にこにこ (smiling happily).
- Lesson context: Thomas visited Nara (Great Buddha), Mishima Skywalk, and Tokyo Skytree — all described using measurements and grammar from Chapter 3: けいけん, やく, から~まで, ながら, メートル/キロ.
