あつめる / 始める — Collecting and Starting

• ねこの写真をあつめます。(Neko no shashin wo atsumemasu.) — I collect photos of cats.
• 古いゲームをあつめています。(Furui geemu wo atsumete imasu.) — I collect old games.
• 日本語の勉強を始めました。(Nihongo no benkyou wo hajimemashita.) — I started studying Japanese.
• 空手をはじめました。(Karate wo hajimemashita.) — I started karate.

のファンです — "I am a fan of [thing]"

Structure: [thing] + のファンです

• ポケモンのファンです。(Pokemon no fan desu.) — I am a fan of Pokémon.
• ジブリの映画のファンです。(Jiburi no eiga no fan desu.) — I am a fan of Studio Ghibli films.
• 日本のアイドルのファンです。いつもテレビで見ています。(Nihon no aidoru no fan desu. Itsumo terebi de mite imasu.) — I am a fan of Japanese idols. I always watch them on TV.
• かつしかほくさいのファンです。(Katsushika Hokusai no fan desu.) — I am a fan of Katsushika Hokusai.

にきょうみがあります — "I am interested in [topic]"

Structure: [topic] + にきょうみ（興味）があります

• おり紙にきょうみがあります。(Origami ni kyoumi ga arimasu.) — I am interested in origami.
• 日本の食べ物にきょうみがあります。(Nihon no tabemono ni kyoumi ga arimasu.) — I am interested in Japanese food.
• か道にきょうみがあります。１５さいのとき、はじめました。(Kadou ni kyoumi ga arimasu. Juugo-sai no toki, hajimemashita.) — I am interested in flower arrangement. I started when I was 15.

Profile Sentences — Full Examples

• しゅみは音楽をきくことです。(Shumi wa ongaku wo kiku koto desu.) — My hobby is listening to music.
• ひまなとき、えをかきます。(Hima na toki, e wo kakimasu.) — I draw pictures when I have free time.
• びじゅつかんによく行きます。(Bijutsukan ni yoku ikimasu.) — I often go to art museums.
• しゅみは運動です。１０さいのとき、じゅう道をはじめました。(Shumi wa undou desu. Juu-sai no toki, juudou wo hajimemashita.) — My hobby is exercise. I started judo when I was 10.
• 友だちになりたいです。(Tomodachi ni naritai desu.) — I want to be friends.

3. Learning Context

• のファンです vs にきょうみがあります: のファンです is stronger enthusiasm ("I'm a big fan of X"); にきょうみがあります is softer ("I have an interest in X"). Both appear in profile writing.
• 始める as a profile anchor: Giving the age or time you started something (１０さいのとき、はじめました) is a natural profile convention — it adds personal detail and uses past tense naturally.
• あつめている vs あつめます: あつめています (te-iru form) emphasises an ongoing state — "I collect / I am in the habit of collecting." あつめます is the general present/habitual.
• か道（華道）cultural note: Japanese-style flower arrangement. Empty space is treated as part of the artwork. Uses flowers, trunks, leaves, and moss; the arrangement has a designated front-viewing side.
• Profile vocab reviewed: しゅみは〜ことです, ひまなとき〜, 日本語ができます, 友だちになりたいです — expressions introduced in earlier chapters, recycled here in profile context.
